Apologies - March never seems to have got under way and now it's April, though the weather isn't any better!
April is supposed to be a month of showers. It looks like living up to it's reputation! It is also the first month of the financial year and lots of business decisions are being made.
With this in mind, I have temporarily taken my work ou of the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen gallery in Milford so that I can concentrate on getting work ready for FIVE days of felting and basket making demos (and selling) at Craft in Focus at Wisley.
If you have not been to this event before, do consider going. It is amazing and with a host of clever crafters demonstrating as well this year, should prove to be particularly interesting.
I shall also be taking part in Open Studios this year - at Kent Road Studios in East Molesey, with fellow Guild members Sue Holton (knitwear), Gabriella Sellors (jewellery) and Louise Bell (applique)
Meanwhile I hope you have been dipping in to my facebook page
and of course my newer page at
Note: I don't know why this new page has such a long link - but if you leave off the numbers it just displays an error message!
As my work is not in Milford, please check out some items on sale at
I shall also be running special offers and these will be publicised on the Facebook pages while this website will continue to be somewhere to see representative designs, some being for sale, others not!
Check out the Fairs & Events page for information about where I will be this spring and summer if you would like to choose work in person.
Of course, if you want custom made baskets or designs in felt, you can still message me via this website.
With new data protection requirements coming into force, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to stay on my mailing list. We all now need to have your specific request in writing to keep your details!
Wet-felting workshops this spring are getting very booked up, largely because I don't timetable them but just agree dates with everyone individually. At the moment I am running
Pods and Pots - producing a bowl or 'pod' big enough to gather small items
Gone to Seed - smaller pods with a seed and tendrils to use as a room scent, and a great introduction to felting with a resist
Fun with Felt Flowers - two felt flower brooches, another great workshop for those relatively new to felting
These classes are 3 hours long (sometimes run over) and cost £45.00 including all materials if it is the first class you have done with me and £40.00 if you have been before.
If you prefer working with fabrics, come along with your fabric stash or favourite little girls' dresses and turn them into a useful basket to treasure all those memories.
Memories Basket classes are full days with a lunch-break in the middle or if you want to try your hand just at hand-sewn baskets, there is a 3 hour class, just making them by hand rather than also on a machine. The full-day class is £80.00, half days are £40.00.
The dye is cast!
Last year was largely spent developing my new work in plaster being sold under the name of Charles Cottage Studio (see Facebook page left).
I have thought hard about whether to have a separate website for this work, but for now will be giving it a separate page on this website.
MEMORIES BASKETS MADE FOR YOU
If you prefer to have a basket made for you, these can be made to order.
I call these Memories Baskets because they are made of fabrics that mean something special to you. This is a much better way to 'hoard' them, than a box of old clothes!
And yes, those of you who know about these baskets already will have noticed the name has changed. Someone pointed out the baskets will represent more than just one memory!
I can also make baskets in my own fabrics (or a mixture of both) but to match your colour preferences.
